Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Machines

The light flashed again. Large rectangular windows appeared in each room, letting light pour in.

After thinking for a moment, she said, “Add wooden doors to every room.”

[Would you like to install doors for 1KB?]

“Yes.”

Another light. Now, polished doors stood in place. Ivy touched one. It was solid, heavy, and smooth.

Ivy then thought for a while and decided to search if, other than stone and wood, she had any other materials, like marble. Yet she was disappointed again.

“No marble… no tiles… It’s better if I make the interior of the room with wood.” She made a plan and began implementing it.

After swapping the material for the apartments in the tower, Ivy added beds and wooden furniture. After the makeover, the apartments looked warm and welcoming.

Her next target was the base of the tower, and Ivy once again decorated it with the wooden furniture and installed a wooden floor and ceiling.

After searching for glass for a long time, Ivy found it under a completely different name:

[Transparent sheet material: can be used for windows, panels, and doors. Cost: 2KB per set.]

Ivy blinked. “So that’s what they called it… transparent sheet material.” She let out a small laugh. “Fine, I’ll take it.”

[Would you like to swap all windows with transparent sheet material? Cost: 6KB.]

“Yes.”

The light flashed, and when it faded, the dull, empty window frames were now filled with clear, shining glass-like sheets.

She walked up and pressed her palm against the surface. It was smooth and cold, just like real glass.

Suddenly, she had the idea to use the glass for decorating the exterior of the stone tower.

Her eyes lit up. “If I cover some parts of the tower with this… it will look wonderful.”

She tapped the panel again.

[Would you like to install transparent sheet panels on the outer walls? Cost: 10KB per level.]

Ivy stared at the screen, her jaw dropping. “Ten KB for one floor? That’s robbery!” She rubbed her chin.

“But… If I only decorate a few parts, like the entrance and maybe the top, it won’t cost too much.”

She confirmed her choice.

The light flashed, and the gray stone walls near the base now had tall glass-like panels stretching upward.

The tower looked brighter and more modern, almost like a mix between a modern-style store and a two-story building.

Ivy stepped back, staring up at it with wide eyes. “Wow… it doesn’t even look like the same place anymore.”

Satisfied with her work, Ivy thought about how she would have to build more towers, and her excitement vanished within a few seconds.

Taking a deep breath, she consoled herself,

“Come on, don’t act lazy. This temporal storage is a treasure; others would love to have something like this, and now that it is in your possession, are you really afraid of hard work? Think about your beloved people and start the work.”

When Ivy thought about her family, friends, and Silas, she felt motivated and began to build towers with greater enthusiasm.

She experimented with a few things, like manually trying to add an apartment in the existing tower, but realized that some kind of restrictions were stopping her from doing so.

She also tried to add floors, but after the second floor, no floor could be added, even if she tried her best.

Frustrated and worn out, Ivy had a quick dinner. She unconsciously looked at the ration that was running out, and her mood became dour.

She had a lot of food: fish, vegetables, salt, flour, and even canned meat. But what she didn’t have and was running out of now was… food made by Silas.

Each time she limited her eating, but even then… the food was running out.

She regretted not storing more.

’If only I had acted greedier and stored more food…’

Whenever she missed Silas terribly, Ivy thought of the food and ate little. And now… she had reached the point that even if she missed Silas in the future, she wouldn’t have any of his handcrafted food to eat.

’Where is he? And why hasn’t he returned yet?’ Ivy wondered.

After finishing her food, she made a few more towers before leaving the temporal storage.

Other than taking care of the base for the few weeks, Ivy had contacted some of the machine owners.

Until now, she had classified some of the machines and had already reached negotiations since the seller didn’t have any buyers.

Most people in the apocalypse wanted small things they could carry fast, like canned food or simple tools.

Nobody had the time or strength to drag heavy machines around. But Ivy had her temporal storage, so she could keep them safe without worry.

She began to list out the machines that would help her the most.

First was the grain mill machine, big and heavy, but it could turn wheat or corn into flour. Without it, bread and pasta would be impossible.

Second was the oil press machine, used to make cooking oil from seeds like sunflower or soy. It was enormous and loud, but once set up, it could discharge endless oil.

Third was the water purification machine, bulky but important. It could clean dirty river water and give clear drinking water every day.

Ivy had stored 50 trillion gallons of river water that she wanted to purify, and now that the water purification machine is in place, the base will have much clearer drinking water.

Fourth was the dough kneading machine, larger than a person, but it made dough for bread, noodles, and pastries in minutes.

Fifth was the cheese-making machine, something no one would ever think to keep at the end of the world. But Ivy smiled to herself. “If I can make milk into cheese, then food will last longer.”

Sixth was the rice polishing machine, used to turn rough rice into clean white rice. The machine was heavy, yet incredibly useful.

The seventh was the meat grinder and sausage filler, so she could turn meat into preserved food that lasted longer.
