Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Jade’s Guess

“That bastard! He is truly scheming!” General Frank muttered in dissatisfaction. He was sitting in front of his son, complaining like a child.

Jade looked at his father helplessly. “Father, you should be more patient.”

“Jade, I want to, but the representative of the Black Vulture had requested 2000 kg of rice! Do you understand just how staggering that amount is? I thought of using the food stored in the reservoirs in Brochill Mountain, and hence prevented the military from dispatching the teams there. I almost succeeded, and my team had reached halfway there. Who would have thought that Silas not only reached the foot of the Brochill mountain even after starting his journey late, but he also caught my people who had covered 90% of the path!”

General Frank was on the verge of breaking down. His planning was getting ruined because of that bastard again and again.

“Father.” Jade called out, noticing that General Frank had vented half of his frustration, “I have a plan.”

General Frank’s eyes brightened, and he asked, “Really? Did you have some kind of vision? Did you make a plan based on your vision?”

Jade shook his head, feeling a bit chilly; he draped the blanket around him even more tightly before looking at General Frank.

“No vision. I can’t depend on my power all the time. The plan this time is a bit simple. Let Silas and his team reach the food reserves first; we will…”

After Jade finished up with his plan, General Frank’s mood brightened up, and he laughed, “Good! Good! Good! The saying that phoenix begets phoenix isn’t false! Each generation surpasses its ancestors! So what if Dante has Silas? I, too, have my son!”

Jade gave a faint smile before focusing on the food.

Seeing his actions, General Frank’s heart was filled with guilt, and he asked, “Jade. Don’t you feel that your father is too villain-like?”

His heart was beating irregularly while the soft breeze suddenly seemed chilly to him.

The sound of the clock ticking seemed like a bomb waiting to explode.

However, the expected explosion didn’t happen; instead, Jade’s soothing, gentle voice echoed in the living room.

“You aren’t a villain, Father. You are ambitious. Dante may seem like a soldier with good values, even a patriotic one at that. But if that is the case, then he shouldn’t aim for a higher position; he should remain as a soldier rather than becoming a general.”

A hint of mockery appeared in Jade’s eyes as he continued, “After all, it’s the soldier who does the dirtiest yet most important work. Yet General Dante, while having a holier-than-thou attitude, looks at you with disdain. You never lied about your ambition.”

General Frank’s hanging heart relaxed, and he chuckled, “My son is indeed the smartest.”

It was true. The main reason why the conflict had even started was that General Frank, since the beginning of his career, aimed for a higher position, while Dante always showcased his disdain for higher positions and looked down on General Frank.

General Frank was unfazed. Since both of them were chasing different paths, they were destined to not cross path with each other.

Yet as General Frank advanced in his rank, he watched Dante advancing too, and that was when General Frank became suspicious.

He watched as Dante’s power grew even more than his. All three children of Dante joined the military; even Stephen did so.

The Blackthorn family slowly occupied all the important positions.

General Frank felt a strong sense of crisis and slowly started to find methods to suppress the Blackthorn family while feeling a sense of betrayal.

From then till now, one thing led to another, and slowly, both of them became hostile.

“Oh, right, how is the healing session going on?” General Frank changed the subject, his eyes flashing with anticipation.

“Good.” Jade’s lips curled upwards as he thought about his own health condition.

From his vision, he was able to know about the existence of a healer. His father invited one of the healers, and Jade’s health slowly started to improve, which was the first news after the apocalypse that had filled him with thrill.

“About Talia…” General Frank paused, his eyes flashing with complex emotion. “She escaped unscathed.”

Jade frowned; this was the second time since his scheme had failed. It wasn’t the only Blackthorn family against whom he had concocted a scheme, but only against the Blackthorn family did his schemes fail repeatedly.

“Father, do you think they have a prophet on their side, too?” Jade narrowed his eyes. One time could be a coincidence, but if it happened a second time too…

General Frank didn’t dismiss the idea and instead thought for a long while before asking,

“If that is the case, then they should know about our involvement in the ’accidents’ they have encountered, right?”

“Hm…” Jade thought for a while before surmising, “I think they have a prophet or divinator by their side, but not a high-level one. I am 90% sure about my guess.”

General Frank believed his son and said with a grim expression, “If that’s the case, then I will ask my subordinate to investigate, and in case they do find a prophet near them… then… that prophet needs to be eliminated.”

“Good.” Jade nodded and finished his dinner. “I will go and rest now.”

“Yes, yes! Don’t forget to take your medicine on time…” Midway through his sentence, General Frank stopped and realized bitterly that the medicines taken by his son had long ago become hard to find.

A sense of bitterness welled up in his heart. The world, which had gained its peace, had now crumbled again due to the sudden arrival of the apocalypse.

“Father, don’t think much,” Jade assured him before returning to his room. Feeling drowsy, he lay on his bed and fell asleep.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a strange place. No… to be precise, it was a high-tech world with tall towers, colorful lights, and strange-looking humans.

His eyes were unconsciously attracted to the beautiful sky with violetish clouds, and there… he saw five moons.
