Reawakening: Primordial Dragon with Limitless Mana - Chapter 148: Helpless
Chapter 148: Helpless
Kaelith stood near the entrance with her son at her side, a line of soldiers in formation behind her.
She couldn’t predict how Argon would respond after hearing about the incident, which was why she needed to be prepared.
Even if she knew that, should Argon choose the wrong path, it would be nearly impossible to protect the townspeople, Kaelith had already made her decision—she would handle things herself, as long as her son remained out of danger.
His time would come. One day, he would carry the mantle. But for now, his role was to watch, observe, and learn.
The envoy of the Emberclad family soon came into view.
It wasn’t a large group. Guarded by only four soldiers, Argon walked at the front with a stern gaze fixed ahead.
Hades studied the man closely—the most ancient entity of this world. A being who had lived through the great war, one respected by every Dragon King.
Argon’s aura poured out in waves, perhaps on purpose. With his sharpened sense for mana, Hades could tell: this man might be as strong as his mother.
Argon finally stopped before them. His voice was deep, carrying both weight and urgency.
“Where is she?”
There was no need to ask who.
Kaelith crossed her arms. “She’s being treated. You can see her.”
“Please,” Argon said.
Kaelith gave a short nod and began leading him into the castle.
His soldiers made to follow, but at a single gesture from their King, they halted outside the main entrance.
So far, Kaelith noted, he showed no hostility toward her. But she couldn’t predict what his reaction would be once he saw his grandchild.
The three of them moved through the halls until they reached the room where Averis lay.
“No…” Argon’s voice cracked, his heart trembling at the sight of his precious.
She was pale as death, eyes sunken, body frail. Her presence was so faint he could hardly feel it.
He stepped closer, placing a trembling hand on her forehead. “What… what happened to her?”
The last he’d heard from Averis’s maid, they were traveling east—to the ancient runes, where she believed she had found traces of the old battle.
Argon had never stopped his grandchild from chasing her passions, even when her obsession with the Fallen One was frowned upon by the rest of the family.
But now, here she was—lying on the bed, pale and nearly lifeless.
Kaelith’s voice was steady as she explained, “She challenged Hades after learning his origin. When she lost and was rejected by him, she refused to accept healing or to leave. Her body heat drained away, and in the process… her core was damaged.”
Argon drew in a long breath, his chest tightening.
He had known this day would come. The moment his daughter caught the faintest scent of the Chaos Heir, she would abandon everything to seek him out.
But this… this was not what he had imagined. To see her reduced to such a pitiful, broken state—it shook him to the core.
He turned sharply toward Averis’s maid, his voice thundering, “Why didn’t you tell me, Angel? Why didn’t you let me know my child was suffering here, on the brink of death?!”
His anger shook the very room—the ground cracked underfoot, the chandelier trembled above, and the air itself grew heavy.
Had Hades not been accustomed to sensing his mother’s overwhelming presence, he might have collapsed beneath the sheer weight of Argon’s aura.
Kaelith remained tense. Dragons were creatures of impulse, quick to let fury erase both past and future. If Argon lost control now, he might lash out at the one he blamed most—Hades.
Yet Angel’s expression stayed composed. She bowed deeply and said, “My Lady used the Bond to prevent me from telling anyone.”
The master–servant bond was unlike the mating bond. It was absolute. Once invoked, a servant could not disobey their master, no matter the circumstance—even if it meant watching them die.
Averis had rarely used that authority before. And never had Angel hated it more than in these past three days, forced to watch her Lady wither before her eyes.
For the first time, regret cut through her unwavering loyalty.
Lifting her gaze, the short-haired woman added softly, “Lady Averis also left a few words for you, Your Lordship.”
Argon’s ears twitched, urging Angel to continue without a single word.
She repeated Averis’s message word for word. “If you blame anyone for what happens to me, I will always hate you, Pa. Whatever I do, it is by my own will.”
Argon’s shoulders sagged. The fierce light in his eyes dimmed, replaced by tears that welled up as he looked at his precious child.
After losing his other grandchild, he had grown overly protective of Averis. And now—seeing her like this—his heart shattered into hundreds of pieces.
Turning to Kaelith, he confessed in a low voice, “I feel so helpless right now.”
Kaelith sighed softly. “Come. Let’s leave her be, so your granddaughter can continue receiving treatment.” The medics have stopped treating her since Argon arrived, which would only put her into further risk.
Argon gave a weak nod. He gently caressed Averis’s head one last time before stepping out with Kaelith and Hades.
Hades studied him closely, taking in the man’s devastation. It was proof enough of how deeply Argon loved his grandchild.
’This has turned into such a mess,’ Hades muttered inwardly.
If only Averis had never learned the truth about him, he could have gone on with his training under his mother, enjoying quiet, peaceful days with his family.
But now, Averis’s very life was at stake.
He had already spoken with Ava, and from what he learned, Averis’s body was rejecting every remedy offered. It was as if she had no will to go on living.
And Hades knew exactly why.
[That child is far too troublesome.]
The familiar voice echoed, making Hades exhale in resignation. ’Do you think I overreacted?’
[No. Not in the fight, nor afterward. If anything, she must learn to still her heart and master her emotions. Only then could she ever hope to be a true candidate.]
Hades gave a wry smile. ’I have no intention of making her my mate.’
He only wanted Averis to recover, to stand on her feet again, and to return to her little dream of wandering the world.
And for that, he was ready to motivate her, if that is what it takes for her to stop resisting.
