Chapter 142: Let her come

Reading her son’s troubled look, Kaelith sighed. “Honey, I know you don’t want to hurt your mates… but you must take another bride for the sake of your core awakening.”

Hades let out a shaky breath. He and his mates already understood why it had to happen.

The problem was the aftermath. “Once they wake, they’ll need me… and when they see another woman, I’ll hurt them again.”

He rubbed the back of his head and pleaded, “Can’t you delay this meeting a little?” If he stayed with his mates longer and eased them into the idea, they might accept it better.

Kaelith’s expression hardened. “That’s the issue, child. We never invited Averis. She’s coming on her own… and her intentions don’t look good.”

Hades frowned. “Is she being forced into this relationship?”

Hades could sense there was political weight behind this marriage. That meant Averis’s feelings likely hadn’t been considered at all.

He’d seen it countless times before—women bound to men they neither knew nor loved, all for the sake of profit and power.

Maybe this was the same. The only difference was that this girl didn’t seem content to silently accept it.

“No, Hades… that’s not it.” Kaelith shook her head. “I can tell what’s running through Averis’s mind. She isn’t against the marriage itself. If she finds what she’s searching for, she may even submit to you willingly.”

Hades blinked, baffled. He kept quiet, letting his mother continue.

Kaelith rose from her seat and walked toward the window. With her hands clasped neatly behind her back, she spoke. “Averis has always been… peculiar. She spent years buried in the archives, studying every fragment of history. She met people who had lived near the places recorded in those accounts, people whose ancestors had seen it all. And more than that—she’s heard the tales from her own grandfather. A man who once stood in the shadow of the war itself.”

Hades frowned—the most ancient dragon was a thousand years old?! That revelation alone was staggering.

Still, he held his tongue and listened as Kaelith continued.

“Maybe it was something she uncovered in the archives…or perhaps her grandfather’s old tales of the past. Either way, that’s what drew her toward the Fallen Primordial, Lord Zerathos.”

She exhaled heavily. “At first, it was mere curiosity. But slowly, dangerously, it turned into obsession.”

Hades finally cut in, his brows furrowing deeper. “But wasn’t her grandfather, Lord Emberclad, in the opposing faction? He shares the same view of the Fallen Primordial as the rest of the world, doesn’t he? Then how…how did Lady Averis grow up like this?”

Kaelith only shrugged. “I never discovered the reason. Whenever we spoke, she never shared her thoughts—only pressed me for answers. She always asked about the scriptures…demanded the words our Lord left behind for our bloodline.”

The more Hades heard, the more tangled and dangerous this girl appeared.

Zerathos’s lineage carried both the knowledge and the purpose behind his choice.

To most of the world, Zerathos was nothing more than a mad zealot who despised peace. Yet those who trusted him never wavered and never abandoned his cause.

Kaelith was the fourth descendant of that faction, the current bearer of the scriptures the Fallen Primordial himself had left behind.

So if Averis had never touched those writings…how had she fallen so deeply, so fatally, into Zerathos’s shadow?

Kaelith drew a quiet breath. “Well, forget that for now. What matters is this—she’s heading straight for the palace…straight for you.”

Hades’s brow furrowed. “To…test me, I assume?”

A faint smile touched Kaelith’s lips. Her son was quick.

She gave a small nod. “Most likely. She wants to see if you truly are the Chaos Heir.”

Hades let out a low growl. “What a troublesome woman.”

Kaelith’s grin widened, a glint in her eyes. “But isn’t that fine, Son? Among dragons, strength is the only way to claim a mate. And besides…you still need to test your new powers, don’t you?”

That seemed to excite Kaelith. “That makes me curious—do you feel anything different?”

Hades hummed softly, then lifted his left arm. “I scraped my hand against the corner of the door…but as you can see, it’s already almost healed.” He turned his palm for her to see.

The wound was nothing more than a faint pink line. That was Luna’s gift—his regeneration had grown remarkably strong.

Kaelith’s lips curved into an elated smile. “That’s an impressive effect for such an early stage. In time, you might even gain instant regeneration.”

Hades gave a short nod. “Then I should thank Luna for that.”

Kaelith tilted her head, her tone turning curious again. “And the elf? What did she grant you?”

Hades offered a wry smile. “Do you know why I asked us to sit down the moment I arrived? Because now…I can sense everything so vividly. Your presence alone feels overwhelming.”

He wasn’t exaggerating.

The maid’s aura had seemed formidable at first—her mana presence alone rivaled Luna and Peri combined. But when he turned his senses upon his mother…his knees had nearly buckled.

She didn’t just carry mana.

She carried an ocean of it.

He has never felt something so overwhelming like this. Hades thought he had gotten strong after all the training and his new formed bond with his mates. However, sitting before her he felt small…extremely weak.

It was only natural she bore the title of Dragon King.

Kaelith giggled, “Well, I will be cautious from now on.”

Hades leaned back in his seat as he asked, “Do you know how long it would take for them to wake up?”

Kaelith hummed before answering, “Based on my calculations, they should wake up by tomorrow.”

Hades’s brows elevated, “Quite long…”

Kaelith smirked, “They were mated to the Heir of a Primordial Being. Naturally, it would take some time.”

Hades hummed, just then, someone knocked on the door.

“Must be the food.” Kaelith approached the door but unlike what she expected, Avalin stood there, her expression contoured with a frown.

“Did something happen?”

Hades also got up and turned towards the maid before they heard the news, “Our prediction was wrong, My Queen. Lady Averis had entered our territory and would arrive here any moment now.”

Kaelith frowned, “She is being a little too daring. Let’s go-”

“No, mother.” Hades stopped her.

Kaelith blinked in surprise.

As she turned to look at him, Hades told her, “If she wants to assess me, let her come. I also want to ask a few questions from this woman.”
